About the Museum
Modern artists such as Picasso, Braque, Matisse and Modigliani drew on the imaginations of primitive African and Oceanian art.
African forms and art have the power to appeal directly to the viewer's mind through unexpected deformations, forms, expressiveness, textures, etc., which are not logical, and have an appeal that immediately captivates. This is because it is the fundamental form and expression of a people that has been selected over hundreds of years, and above all, it is a form of the soul that is filled with the wish to live. This is the starting point of spiritual creation, and I believe that not only the artists of the 20th century, but also those of us today, will be struck by it when we see it.
The African Art Museum, established at the scenic southern foot of Mt. Yatsugatake, with views of Mt. The museum also introduces the art of ethnic minorities from Asia, Oceania, Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan, and the Himalayas.
